Children from Manor Primary School in Sutton Coldfield won the Foods from Spain National Primary Schools Competition 2010 with their “Eat 5 a day, live the Spanish way!” collage, showing an inventive and colourful collection of Spanish fruits, vegetables, portraits and images. The judging panel for the competition included representatives from the London International Gallery of Children’s Art (LIGCA) and the editor of National Geographic Kids magazine.

Moredon Primary and Nursery School, Swindon, won second place in the competition - and a £1,000 prize – while Queen’s Park Junior School, in Bournemouth won £500 for its third-place collage.

Six collages were also chosen as winners in each of the year groups and special needs categories and receive Foods from Spain multimedia packs; runners up schools receive sets of Foods from Spain pencils.

These are:

Birdwell Primary School
St Leonards C of E Primary School
All Saints School
Keighley St Andrew's CE Primary School
By Brook Valley CE Primary School
Thorpepark Primary School

All schools that entered the National Primary Schools Competition receive a certificate from the Spanish Ambassador.

A selection of the best entries will be displayed at the London International Gallery of Children’s Art.

María José Sevilla, director of Foods from Spain said: “Our National Primary Schools Competition has again attracted excellent pieces of artwork from schools around the country.

“We have been extremely impressed by the high standard and variety of collages we’ve seen, and especially by the way that healthy eating messages have been combined so creatively with elements of Spanish culture.

“It is important that we educate children to eat healthily from a young age, and the National Primary Schools competition aims to encourage this, and to show how Spanish fresh fruit and vegetables can be eaten as part of a healthy diet.”
